Polyaspartic Resin

Polyurea is an elastomeric substance produced through the reaction between an isocyanate component and an amine-based compound. It's differentiated into pure polyurea and hybrid polyurea, each possessing distinct properties. At its core, polyurea is recognized for its corrosion resistance, waterproofing, and abrasion resistance.

Acrylic polyurethane coatings are a go-to material for outdoor anti-corrosion topcoats. However, some of the resins currently in use have low solid content, resulting in less-than-ideal film thickness and significant environmental pollution due to the release of organic volatiles. Despite technological advances introducing hydroxypropyl resins with 80% solid content, their high viscosity and low reactivity still necessitate the use of large quantities of solvents. Consequently, the actual construction may still contain up to 70% solids, emitting a considerable amount of VOCs.

First we need to understand the reaction principle of polyaspartic resin and curing agent: The secondary amine group of polyaspartic polyurea resin and the isocyanate curing agent react to form a polymer with urea bonds. Because of the high bond energy of urea, the film-forming of polyaspartic polyurea resin and isocyanate curing has excellent performance: high strength, high wear resistance, high impact resistance, excellent flexibility, excellent weather resistance and good chemical resistance.

Polyaspartic polyurea is a member of the polyurea family and represents its third generation. Evolving over the years, polyurea technology has witnessed the advent of aromatic spray polyurea (first generation), aliphatic spray polyurea (second generation), and now, polyaspartic ester polyurea.
