Cold storage units are categorized into low-temperature, medium-temperature, high-temperature, quick-freeze, and controlled atmosphere types. The primary market is low-temperature storage, accounting for 72%, primarily used for food storage at -18 to -25°C, which is ideal for preserving meat and vaccines. The unique environment of cold storage units demands high-quality flooring materials that can withstand prolonged low temperatures and endure the impact and pressure of forklifts during loading and unloading. Therefore, the materials must exhibit excellent low-temperature resistance and impact durability.

Option 1: Steel shot applied with a sealing hardener to create a dense surface, preventing water infiltration.
Option 2: Water-based polyurethane mortar, which is effective in preventing freeze-cracking and water seepage.

Challenges:

  1. As a rigid system, it is less effective against cracking. While the flooring generally performs well, localized cracking can allow ice water to seep in, causing expansion and concrete damage.
  2. Low-temperature conditions slow the chemical reaction, necessitating shutdowns for maintenance and increasing costs.
  3. Mechanical properties degrade in low temperatures, resulting in a reduced lifespan of the flooring.
