Is Polyaspartic Polyurea Waterproof Material Safe for Human Health?

This two-component, weather-resistant polyaspartic waterproof material is a type of hand-applied, transparent polyurea that does not require tile removal. It is popular with customers due to its characteristics, including waterproofing, moisture resistance, slip resistance, and preservation of the original design aesthetics. Since this waterproof material is applied directly to tile surfaces and frequently contacts people, some question whether it is harmful to human health.

In fact, this hand-applied transparent waterproof material is not harmful to the body. This two-component, weather-resistant material is a type of polyaspartic ester polyurea coating. Its film does not discolor under UV light or form chromogenic groups, avoiding the yellowing and UV instability of aromatic isocyanate polymers. This aliphatic decorative material cures slowly and performs exceptionally.

Product Characteristics
This two-component, weather-resistant polyaspartic polyurea is designed for home waterproofing and leak repair. It is transparent, odorless, non-toxic, safe, and environmentally friendly, easy to apply, and requires no tile removal or grouting. It does not corrode tiles and can extend their service life. Additionally, it is suitable for environments with long-term water immersion.

Application Method

  1. For tile surfaces, grind the surface repeatedly with talcum powder or cement using a cloth or gauze to remove polishing wax and oil stains, then clean thoroughly. For concrete or cement bases, keep the surface clean and free of oil and dust.
  2. Ensure the base surface is solid, clean, repaired, and appropriately roughened, with a moisture content of less than 6%.

  4. = 1:1 by weight, mechanically stirring for 2–3 minutes until fully mixed before applying.
  5. Use mixed materials within 30 minutes. The application environment should be 5–35 °C with humidity between 30–80%.
  6. Mix in small batches according to site needs, and do not add diluents. The material can be applied by spraying, brushing, or rolling.
  7. Apply multiple thin layers. Once the coating is touch-dry, proceed with the second application. When applying over a polyurea base, apply polyaspartic polyurea within 12–24 hours after the base application.

Precautions During Application

  1. Follow the product application process strictly; stir thoroughly before use to ensure full reaction, and do not mix with other substances.
  2. Wear gloves and protective gear during application. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention immediately.
